With the 2021 Surry Farmer’s Market expected to continue “at least” until the end of October and to hold special Thanksgiving and Christmas Markets planned even after that, Market Manager LaSonya White said last week that there are many great reasons to come out and enjoy access to good, fresh local produce, gifts, and conversation with neighbors.
“It’s so nice to see so many people out and supporting the market this year!” White exclaimed. “And besides all the great fresh fruits and vegetables we have home-baked goods, jams, jellies, pickles, gift baskets, wood-working – lots of fun stuff. It’s been a very vibrant atmosphere, and we’ve almost doubled previous foot traffic. It’s a very exciting place to come spend Friday afternoons! “
With Musical Performances on First Fridays, Arts and Crafts Night on Second Fridays, Food Truck Night on Third Fridays and Family Activities on Fourth Fridays, White said, “This coming week (August 20) people can look forward to coming out and ordering dinner from the food trucks while they shop and then either take it home or enjoy their meal right on site at the picnic tables we’ve provided.”
In addition to the fun, fellowship, and food the local Farmer’s Market presents for the Surry area, White said, “We are trying to make sure to be as careful as possible from a safety prospective. We’re following all CDC and Virginia Department of Health Guidelines for Farmer’s Markets, so it makes it really nice – and safe – that people can come out and shop with us.”
The market can always use new vendors and volunteers, White said, plus this year it has expanded services also to offer access to fresh fruits and vegetables through SNAP.
The Surry Farmer’s Market, with its expanded services this year also offering access to fresh fruits and vegetables through SNAP, is located under the Farmers’ Market Pavilion at 45 School Street in Surry across from the Government Center and held every Friday from 4 – 7 p.m. For updated information on Farmers’ Market happenings, follow the Farmers’ Market Facebook Page.
