The Surry County Chamber of Commerce will sponsor a fall Surry County Community Clean Up and Cook Out on Saturday, October 22, and according to Chamber VP Roselynn (Rose) Miller, the afternoon offers fun along with an opportunity to make the county even more beautiful.
“Cleaning up our community is something that everyone should have an interest in regardless of age,” explained Miller. “It involves caring for our earth, and with that, caring for our community and each other.”
“So we’re inviting everyone to meet at 10 a.m. at Hampton Roads Winery, 6074 New Design Rd. in Elberon, VA,” she continued. “We will pick up T-shirts, grabbers, trash bags and divide into groups to go clean up trash in our community. One group will stay behind and prepare free burgers, hot dogs, snacks and drinks for volunteers to enjoy at 12:30, sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce.”
At their last clean up event in the spring, Miller said that over 20 people aged 5-75 collected more than over 35 bags of trash.
“Throughout the summer there was a lot of interest in how people, who weren't able to make it to the spring cleanup, could get involved,” she added. “Well now is their chance! We hope to get even more participation, cover more ground and make a greater impact to clean up our community.”
“We’ve got a small but committed group of people who are making an impact over time, so I think we are off to a good start,” Miller said.
“I’m really excited to build on the momentum that we began on Earth Day 2022,” she added. “I just want to invite everyone come and get involved with your neighbors in the betterment of our community. It’s a great opportunity to include even more people in our community - in every walk of life - to both clean up together and share a meal together afterwards.”
