SUSSEX – Sussex County Sheriff Ernest Giles has just issued an urgent warning for citizens in all surrounding counties in southeastern Virginia of a large influx of counterfeit bills just now entering the area.

“We first learned of the situation about an hour ago,” Giles said, “and already we have recovered some hundreds, fifties, and twenties.  Sources indicate that there are or will be tens as well and possibly fives. We are urging all businesses and individuals to carefully check their bills for counterfeit money.  We are seeking the source at this time, and urge anyone finding the counterfeit bills to immediately contact your local law enforcement agency or the Virginia State Police.”

Anyone with information concerning the source of these counterfeit bills please call the Sussex County Sheriff’s Office at 434-246-5000 or your local law enforcement office or the Virginia State Police, and you can remain anonymous.
