SUSSEX – An inmate of Sussex II State Prison died Wednesday days after being attacked in his cell at the jail.

According to officials with the Virginia Department of Corrections, just after 6 p.m. Wednesday, Ebony K. Auddi, 49, died at VCU Medical Center in Richmond, where he had been hospitalized since January 30 after being assaulted inside his cell.

Few details were revealed by authorities in their statement Wednesday, with DOC officials saying, “An inmate-on-inmate in-cell attack is suspected and the incident is under investigation.”

At the time of his death, Auddi was serving a 14 years, 24 months sentence for attempted rape, attempted sodomy, and sexual battery.

This is the second death reported by the Virginia Department of Corrections since August of last year at Sussex I and I State Prisons in the county. At that time, inmate Pakastan Algier Gary died after being injured in an offender-on-offender fight.
