SURRY – A July 5 fire at Surry Seafood Company has the popular local establishment closed until Friday, July 12, according to Randy Pack, one of the owners of the establishment.
“It was just a small fire in the dish room,” Pack said when reached on Sunday, “and we’re working on that now. The only damage was to the dish room itself. The rest is just a lot of smoke damage. We’ll be open for business as usual Friday.”
Pack said that the fire occurred a little after 1 a.m. on July 5, and that the Surry Volunteer Fire Department deserves a lot of credit for keeping the damage to a minimum.
“The Surry Volunteer Fire Department was a Godsend,” Pack said. “They’re fantastic. They were there very quickly – especially for a rural area – and they and all the first responders were very impressive and professional. We had some hotel guests, and the first responders were just super wonderful with them – with the whole thing. Having them there was a wonderful experience – for a terrible experience.”
