Surry County High Student Competes at FBLA National Leadership Conference in Atlanta

Dendron, Virginia, July 11, 2016—More than 9,380 of America’s best and brightest high school students traveled to the Peach State to CONNECT with top future business leaders and showcase their talents as they competed for the opportunity to win more than $179,000 in cash awards.

The Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) National Leadership Conference was held June 29–July 2 in Atlanta. Participants from across the United States and abroad attended this exciting conference to enhance their business skills, expand their networks, and participate in more than 65 business and business-related competitive events.

David McDonald and his adviser, Mrs. Teresa Johnson, from Surry County High School in Dendron, Virginia attended the FBLA National Competition in Atlanta, Georgia. David competed in the competitive event, Client Service. Client Service is role play event that requires the competitor to provide customer service to a client. To be able to compete at the national level, David competed at the state level on April 8 – April 10, 2016 in Reston, Virginia. He placed 2nd in the state of Virginia. At the national level, David competed against over 70 students in the nation in his event and was one of the students to make it to the finals, where he competed against 12 students.

For many students, the competitive events are the capstone activity of their academic careers. In addition to competitions, students immersed themselves in interactive workshops, visited an information-packed exhibit hall, and heard from motivational speakers on a broad range of business topics.
