WAKEFIELD – At 3:26 a.m. on Dec. 22, a 911 call came in to the Sussex Sheriff’s Department of a shooting on K street in Wakefield, according to Sussex County Sheriff Ernest Giles. Deputies were dispatched to the scene where they found 32-year-old Montrail Lathony Stringfield of that address with multiple gunshot wounds and “one very obvious one to the chest.”

Giles said deputies immediately removed the adult female and 5 children under the age of 12 from the residence and checked to makr sure that there was no one else inside the building. They summoned the rescue squad, and, upon arrival, “they pronounced Mr. Stringfield to be deceased.”

According to the Sheriff, investigations revealed the incident began “when two males entered the residence brandishing firearms with unknown intention and shot Mr. Stringfield before exiting.”

“Numerous calls have been coming into the office with investigative leads,” he added.

Due to this being an ongoing investigation, no further information was released.  Sheriff Giles has requested anyone with knowledge pertaining to the incident please call 434-246-5000 and ask for  Investigator John Ogburn.
