SUSSEX – An inmate at Sussex I State Prison has died following an altercation with another prisoner, state corrections officials confirmed late Wednesday night.

While few details were provided by authorities, they did say in a statement that 45-year-old Pakastan Algier Gary was pronounced dead at Petersburg’s Southside Regional Medical Center Wednesday evening after he sustained “life-threatening injuries in an apparent offender-on-offender fight.”

Gary’s cellmate at the jail, Frank Elmo Reid is a suspect and the death remains under investigation.
