SURRY – On September 20, Ray Phelps, Emergency Services Coordinator of Surry County, announced in a press release the listing of new Surry County Emergency Ambulance Transport Fees which will go into effect on October 1, 2017.
This is Following Resolution 2017-12, adopted during the August meeting of the Surry County Board of Supervisors, revising Emergency Transport Billing Ordinance 2014-01 which establishes emergency ambulance transportation service fees, by adding section 12-1 to the Code of the County of Surry.
The following fees have been established and approved by the Surry County Board of Supervisors for the provision of emergency medical transport services by paid and volunteer emergency medical services entities operating within Surry County, Virginia.
- Basic Life Support: $450.00
- Advanced Life Support 1: $525.00
- Advanced Life Support 2: $775.00
- Treat and Release: $150.00 (If medical procedure performed)
- Mileage (all service levels): $14.25
According to Phelps, the fees collected based on the revised Emergency Transport Billing Ordinance 2017-12 will assist the Surry Volunteer Rescue Squad in their endeavor to provide quality, professional emergency care. Additional revenue from this source will be utilized to offset the current cost of Surry County’s contracted Emergency Medical Services.
“We’re doing this trying to make sure that we have the best equipment available for the citizens and people who travel through Surry County,” said Phelps. “We have a contracted medic 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year, and, one thing the additional revenue will do is to help offset that cost.”
