SURRY – Surry County’s 2019 National Night Out celebration on August 6 was a huge success with over 350 in attendance, according to Sheriff Carlos Turner, and as these photos attest, there was a lot of fun to be had!
“Everybody seeing the helicopter come in and land and the kids getting to sit inside just fascinated the crowd,” Turner said. “And, of course, the bounce house is always a treat. The kids love those! And the free watermelons and snow cones and just everything! It was really a wonderful time for everyone – not just the kids.”
Turner added that the event was fun with a purpose, as the community and law enforcement partnership it represents “shows a stand against criminal acts, illicit drugs, and bullying in the community.”
“It shows that we’re coming together as a group,” he said, “to let folks know those things are not going to happen here in Surry County. We’re taking a serious stand against crime. National Night Out here has grown bigger and better every year thanks to the partnership between law enforcement and the community, and I’d just like to thank all the volunteers who made it possible. We could not have done it without them.”
