WAVERLY – Doris Ellis-Jackson retired after 34 years on Jan. 1 as VP and branch manager of Sonabank’s Waverly Branch. On Dec. 21, CEO of Sonabank CEO Joe Shearin and a large number of long-time customers, family members, friends, co-workers – her “bank family” – turned out in force to wish her well on her retirement.

Shearin, who welcomed everyone to the event, described Ellis-Jackson as, “an outstanding part of our banking family. She’s a fantastic person and employee, always giving back. A real pillar of the community. She’s been such a great part of the banking family it’s bittersweet to see her retire. I’m happy to see her happy to spend time with her family but she’s such a great part of ours.  We’re really going to miss her.”

When asked last week how she felt after the actual retirement, Ellis-Jackson responded, “The luncheon was great!  I had a lot of family and friends and long-time customers there, former supervisors.  I felt a whole lot of love!  As for being retired now, well, it’s only been a few days, but it’s been great so far. I’m keeping busy at home and doing work for Sunday School. But I wouldn’t be truthful if I said I didn’t miss my co-workers.”
