SURRY – A tour of Surry County’s high school and elementary school the first week after opening for 2018-2019 provided some fun and interesting insights.
Bulletin boards, doors, even the sides of teachers’ desks sport messages of encouragement and inspiration for the students. Instruction obviously covers a lot more nowadays than just the A,B,C’s – like in one classroom where students acquire life skills planning and manufacturing custom t-shirts for community and school events, including over 2,000 shirts for Homecoming!
The tour also yielded dozens of images of Superintendent Dr. Michael Thornton interacting spontaneously and warmly with the students, and a demonstration of the comfort level with which the students responded.
And who knew that Superintendent Thornton had a wicked three-point shot? Here are some favorites from the tour.
