The Sussex County Board of Supervisors meeting on Thursday night, May 16, will encompass at least two significant topics, according to information obtained from county administrator Vandy Jones. One is the potential final approval of the 2020 county budget, and the other is a public hearing.
“There was a work session for board members to go over final budget items scheduled for last Tuesday, May 7, for board members to go over anything in question to prepare for the expected vote on this Thursday, the 15” Jones said. “But due to some scheduling challenges, the work session had to be re-scheduled for Tuesday night, the 14th. If everything is done there, the vote will be on Thursday night, the 16th.”
Jones reiterated that at this point, the plan remains, as previously reported, for no change in the tax levy.
A public hearing on the Virginia Department of Transportation’s six year plan for the county also will be held at the regular May 14 meeting, Jones said.
“Every year VDOT presents and the board goes over the plan as far as projects being done in county,” Jones explained. “There are no new projects since the plan was adopted last year. A VDOT representative will be there to go over the plan and answer board questions.”
A citizens comments session is scheduled for 8 p.m. at each month’s regular meeting which is held at 7 p.m. the third Thursday of the month in the General District Courtroom at the Sussex Judicial Center, 15098 Courthouse Road, Sussex, VA 23884. A full agenda is posted online prior to each regular BOS monthly meeting on the Sussex County VA government website.
