ELECTION 2019: Incumbent Tyler faces challenge from Republican Wachsmann

SUSSEX – Longtime Democratic delegate Roslyn Tyler will face a Republican challenger for the first time since 2013 as Stony Creek pharmacist Otto Wachsmann, Jr. has filed paperwork to appear on the ballot for the November 5 General Election, per information released by the Virginia Department of Elections.

The 75th House District is made up of parts of Sussex, Greensville, Dinwiddie, Lunenburg, Brunswick, and Southampton counties, along with the cities of Franklin and Emporia.

Tyler, who ran unopposed in both the 2015 and 2017 elections, was last challenged in 2013 by Alvin Louis Peschke. In that election, Tyler received 62.4% of votes cast. Facing the same opponent two years earlier in 2011, Tyler received 66.1% of the votes.

For those wishing to cast a ballot in the upcoming election, here are a few key dates to keep in mind ahead of November:

  • Deadline to register to vote, or update an existing registration is Tuesday, October 15, 2019.
  • Deadline to request an absentee ballot to be mailed to you is Tuesday, October 29, 2019. Your request must be received by your Registrar by 5:00 p.m.
  • Deadline to vote in-person absentee is Saturday, November 2, 2019
