CLAREMONT – This year the Third Annual Claremont Christmas Parade, scheduled for December 15, has been extended to include all of Surry County, and Mayor George Edwards said that the town is delighted to be able to share the good fun and fellowship with their neighbors.
“It’s just a great night of fun,” he explained. “Kids love it, adults love it, everybody comes together in a community spirit kind of way. It’s really a huge Christmas party. We have a Christmas Parade of Lights and we just ask everyone participating in the parade to have some lights on somewhere. We’ve even had people marching wearing lights! Well, this year, because the county had to cancel their tree lighting, Surry County Parks and Rec joined in with us, so we know it will be even bigger and better. The Board of Supervisors will even have a float in the parade, including the Commonwealth Attorney. Then we’ll have a huge Christmas party.”
“So on December 15 at 7 o’clock,” Edwards continued, “we’ll have folks having fun watching or being a part of the parade, with a little bit of everything. We even have local churches involved, like a praise dance routine. Then we’ll gather on the front lawn outside the Town Hall and light the Community Christmas Tree. Finally we’ll all go inside for visits with Mr. and Mrs. Santa! There will be gifts and prizes and a huge spread of food. It’s just a great time of fellowship for everyone!”
According to the Surry County Sheriff’s Department, the deadline for parade entries has been extended to December 8 to allow for citizens outside of Claremont to more fully participate. Sign-up forms are available at the Claremont Town Hall Office.
