SURRY – The Board of Trustees of Blackwater Regional Library System has accepted with regret the resignation of the System’s Director, Jenny Bakos, effective Nov. 30, according to a press release from the group.
After serving the Blackwater Regional Library System for five years as director plus three years in a previous capacity, Bakos is leaving to accept the promotional position of Executive Director of the Washington County Free Library System, headquartered in Hagerstown, Maryland.
The board of trustees acknowledged the accomplishments and progress the system has made under her leadership, and Bakos said that she “…leaves Blackwater with deep appreciation for the wonderful staff and communities which value quality library services.”
She further added that she will take many rewarding and progressive experiences she has developed as she led Blackwater and worked with its citizens to her new position.
Bonnie Lauver, the current assistant director, has been appointed interim director effective December 1, and the board of trustees has appointed a search committee, chaired by trustee Pam Vaughn of Isle of Wight County, to fill the vacancy left by Bakos. Each locality the library serves will be represented on the search committee, according to the release.
